As I- Elle, of EllaBella hair and makeup, and a fully qualified hairdresser, I work at one of Sydney's most prestigious hairdressing salons- "Sloans" of Lane Cove. Through the salon, I was asked to be a part of the hair team for Fashion Week 2011, and here is some of our work from today...

The designer (Helen of 'Thurley') wanted a textured low pony tail. This was achieved by using Schwartzkopf's 'thrill' fibre gum, "magic" which is serum, and water. The result is almost slicked, but messy at the same time.

Both on 40 degree heat waves, these brides throughout feb and march braved the heat (and happily both told me that their hair stood up to the heat fearlessly!)

Bridal EXPO 2011

back in January and then again in April, I was involved in doing the hair and makeup for the bridal fashion show at the "AUSTRALIAN BRIDAL SERVICES" bridal expo. Ella Bella Hair and makeup sometimes contracts to a company called "The Makeup Mode" and through this company i came to be involved with the contract for hair and makeup for the catwalk show. WHAT FUN! beautiful models, beautiful dresses and a great show!!! im sure you would all agree...

So its blogging night, and without trying to bore you all with what shoot was for what, I thought I would just post the cold hard evidence! Fashion shoots here include the beautiful Sabella in her own pale pink dress in our secret garden, cute Miss Steph with her blonde bombshell look in a well spotted antique store, and the stunning Illya in green around town for the UWS magazine "I heart UNI" shoot.

As GHD were holding a photographic shoot entitled "Midnight Cinderella", my junior staff from "Bartley Hair" asked for my help in her photoshoot. So, Ella Bella to the rescue! I recruited most importantly the photographer- a big thanks to KIMAGES.COM.AU, models, props, wardrobe and ofcorse- the story. As collaborated upon from photographer, junior stylist, art director and makeup artist- here is what we came up with, to communicate the character and theme of 'Cinderella/Midnight', and to market a new product- ghd!

it came to my attention that the hairdressing salon that i was working in for 3 yrs, never encouraged their junior staff to enter creative hair comps. Which, being my specialty, I felt it was up to me to get those girls creatively thinking! and this they did...

So, a simple brief- submit work for a photographic competition- hair- cut, colour, style, makeup, wardrobe, location, photography style is allllll entirely up to the stylist. Each hair stylist in the salon entered, and here is what EllaBella came up with...

Another week, another location. This week I was out to Camden airport for a 1940's aviation themed fashion shoot. I was in charge of makeup alone, so i went with the 1940's theme, however i didnt feel the hair really met the theme so much but I guess hair added more of a modern element. As did the clothes, a blend of 1940's and modernity... so, what do you all think? professional shots are on the way, but here a few quickies I got on location.

Our poor victim (model- REMEMBER GUYS! its just pretend...) has gotten her arm stuck in a fabric feeding machine, resulting in a break in the middle of her arm. As she was pulled into the machine, her face was hit on impact... poor dear :(

two weeks ago, through my college 'three arts- the art and technology of makeup' I was asked to do makeup for a short film titled 'beauty/ beast'. I have not yet viewed the final cut, and as it was a silent film, the actual story line was a little confusing with the 3 rather juxtaposing characters consisting of an innocent 1920's flapper girl, 1950's angry gangster and a subservient clown... so all I know is the makeup went a little like this...

Saturday night was spent making up the faces of the many cast members in the musical 'THE PRODUCERS'. Stage makeup was applied to all members- so a slightly warmer and darker shade in comparison to the actors natural skin tone, topped with an accentuated eye, lip and cheek. Amongst the cast were speciality makeups of aged/old women, darkened eyes for a flock of pigeons, and ofcorse, the glamour makeup of our dancers. A very successful night and a wonderful effort by the cast, crew, directors and ofcorse, my fellow makeup artists!

We all need to keep on improving our skills if we're going to make it in this world yes?

So, hence my new walk of life for this year! As a full time senior stylist of "Bartley Hair" in Carlingford, I will now be cutting my hours back to Thursday nights, Fridays and Saturdays in order to study special effects makeup at the renowned specialist college "THREE ARTS SPECIAL EFFECTS COLLEGE". I will be studying a certificate 4 in special effects makeup for theatre and film. VERY excited to further my passion and to learn from the absolute BEST in the biz!

So, such a very busy week and weekend it has been- come to think of it, what a busy year to start with!

Through my photographer Kimages*, I learned that International wedding photographer Jasmine Star was coming to Australia, and needed stylists for her 3 day conference last week. What fun?! So down my name went, and up came the position :)

I was briefed for two models- BRIDES- naturally. Beautiful brides at that. A bit of a tight squeeze with two elaborate bridal upstyles and makeups in just two hours, but achieved all the same.

For our first model- Kristy, we had a slightly more contemporary gown. With an asymmetric neck line and rhinestone embellishment, it called for a stunning yet playful 'do'. Going for sleek yet loose, a back-combed French twist, or 'French roll' adaption was a quick and elegant option (especially when session styling!)

Dramatic smokey eyes and a matt finish deeper rose-red lip was applied to compliment the look. (A fairly decent coverage was used in terms of foundation/ base, at the request of Jasmine* for the day. )

Next up in my chair I had the very lovely Lacey. With a very soft flowing and romantic gown, the hair and makeup was to reflect just that. So, a very elegant and romantic low positioned up-do was created by looping curled pieces into an old fashioned pin-curl look. Simple and sweet, a matching coloured ribbon (from the flower design on the gown) was added as a sort of tied bow head band. Looping hair over this ribbon piece softened it and blended it in with the rest of the style. Makeup was simple and romantic with good coverage and soft warm tones.

A beautiful look for any bride :)

you got the time baby we got the look!

when there's a will there's a way, and when you as lucky as i am with models and photographer- there's CERTAINLY a way!

So, my first Saturday night of 2010 in Sydney, I organised a model and photographer- and off we went adventuring.

Firstly we decided to utilise the sun/ lighting and palest of our wardrobe, to create an innocent and cute little daisy child shot. Long grass and greenery surrounding a creek by Ermington with the sun peaking through hitting my fresh crimson red toned bob was a beautiful contrast and a striking image.

Next we hit a tram stop in Glebe. Setting the scene with a school like almost French looking dress, we had our playful model waiting for the tram, watching into the distance of the dark tunnel near by. Playing with an umbrella and also some more primitive casual wear, we changed up the scene from the tunnel and tram stop, to a beautiful tree and park area surrounding.

After a break to welcome in the darkness of night, more makeup and hair passed the time!

With our last shots, we wanted to have a sexed up, edgy look so naturally- we found our location in a completely gratified apartment block in Surry Hills.

Adding an extension from the edge of my model's right eye, I formed dramatised eyelash outline into a swirling tattoo, lined with fine silver glitter. This delivered a certain seductiveness and with the addition of smouldering red lips and some big sexy hair* we were right to shoot!

A great effort by all involved, and much enjoyment through the tired eyes and legs of a long day at the salon previous to the 5 hr shoot!

The beginning. What a very good place to start!

My name is Ellen Maree Rose Vierboom, and I am a stylist. I love to create, play and imagine and I work with makeup and hair to do this.

As a qualified salon professional, I am a highly trained colour technician learning from the best in the business at Schwartzkopf Professional, Sydney. I am a progressive technical cutter, and within my salon I am the head up-styling specialist.

My passion is hair and makeup, and my ethic is is beauty. It is an honour to make a bride feel beautiful on her special day, and this is what I love!

EllaBella is about finding the right personal touches to make everyone smile from the inside out on that special occasion.

Everything from weddings, engagements, hens, formals, 21st's and other important birthdays, to stage productions/musicals, film, catwalk and photo shoots are all reasons why EllaBella has the creative licence to dream up a little sparkle...
